Garden Up - Urban Gardening & Living

Small Space,. Lots of Garden.

Karen Glaser, who for nearly 30 years has worked in and around the water with her camera. Starting with the now classic yellow Minolta Weathermatic she received as a birthday present, she now shoots with a Nikonos V. She travels to an open part of the ocean which she says reminds her of “Western Kansas” – a place off the Americas in the Pacific, which can take 32-36 hours to reach. Swimming into the depths she shoots upwards toward the distant sun, capturing hammerheads and whale sharks as they swim above, immersed in the web of life. Her work has led her to care deeply about her subjects, seeing that the locations “are deeply affected by many modern threats including: over fishing, illegal fishing, and shark fining. The shark population is plummeting and rays are following suit. It is not inconceivable to think they might follow the dinosaur into extinction.”

About

I started a little NYC company called Garden Up. We make TOWER GARDENS which use a drip-system of nutrient tea and water (not soil) to grow plants. The large unit grows over $1,200 worth of produce in one season, holds 72 plants and takes up less than four square feet of space. It’s all about moving away from supermarket produce and growing your own. Please visit us at www.GardenUpNow.com and let me know what you think. PS: I am a photographer as well so you will see some of my pictures!
