US: 80 year old woman thwarts robbery with mangoes
Two men have been arrested in New Bedford on suspicion of attempted armed robbery. The men were prevented from achieving their heinous objectives as a result of the store owner’s 80 year old mother in law, who bravely attacked the gun toting, would be thieves, with a basket of mangoes.
Otilia Martins went into the Continental Market last week to do a little grocery shopping. It was bad timing - at least for the two guys who came in to hold up the store. Martins wasn’t perturbed, even when one of the criminals pointed a gun in her face. She just kept on hurling mangoes at his head as he made his exit.
Martins was injured in the event, as one of the robbers hit her in the head with his gun. her son in law, Manuel Nogueira, says she is doing OK.
